In 1977, after receiving her formation at the Conservatoire of the Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels, Christiane Marchant entered the Ballet du XXème siècle, under Maurice Béjart’s direction and three years later, was hired by the Hamburg Ballett, run by John Neumeier – a ten-year collaboration.
Her repertoire covers the classical and neoclassical works, and numerous creations, such as Neumeier’s and Forsythe’s. From 1999 to 2008, she was teacher and Ballet Master in the Hamburg Ballett, the Semperoper in Dresden, the MaggioDanza in Florence and the Ballets of Monte-Carlo. She revived several ballets for companies, such as John Neumier’s for the Scala in Milan and for the Vienna State Ballet / Wiener Staatsballett. She gave classes within the Royal Danish Ballet, Swedish Royal ballet, Béjart Ballet Lausanne, Stuttgart Ballet, Ballet de Santiago de Chile, and the Ecole Supérieure de Danse de Cannes-Rosella Hightower.
She was also assistant to the Artistic Director at the Hamburg Ballett and took part to translations of several publications (for instance Suki Schorer’s about Balanchine’s technique and Vaganova’s method, still at a preparatory stage). Ballet Master of the Royal Ballet of Flanders since 2005, she is also a stager of David Dawson’s choreography, lately with the Pennsylvania Ballet.
In 2017, she is appointed co-Artistic Coordinator of the European School of Ballet.
